PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
