Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim experiences the pressure during their three-one defeat at Brentford
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim admits he cannot conceal from his poor statistics and believes it is expected that club icons are commenting on him.
Earlier this week, United's all-time scorer Wayne Rooney told his program that "the heart has gone" from his former club.
Amorim has secured just eighteen victories from his 49 games in control, including 9 out of thirty-three in the English top flight, where he has yet to achieve two consecutive wins.
Despite the fact that high-level Old Trafford sources are certain that the club owner remains supportive Amorim, an inability to beat newly promoted Sunderland on Saturday will trigger new speculation about his future heading into another fortnight international break.
"This is expected," said the Portuguese coach, when asked about Rooney's remarks. "One can't run away from the outcomes."
"Additionally you have the legacy from last season, [although] last season for me is in the past."
Supporter Response and Current Circumstances
United's followers stayed behind Amorim following last season's poor showing, when they finished fifteenth in the league - their lowest showing since the 1973/74 relegation season - and were beaten in the European showpiece, in the belief that the current campaign would be significantly better.
The manager assured supporters the circumstances would change because he had more opportunity to train with his squad without the midweek commitment of European competition.
That is not been how the opening six matches have materialised as United have suffered 3 losses so far and are currently 14th in the table.
Manager's Reaction to Questions
When questioned what assurances he could offer fans that the circumstances will change, the manager added: "It's not the time to say, it is the time to show."
"I review the fixtures this season and, for me, they are entirely different, but I have nothing to add at present."
- Manchester United presently hold 14th position in the top flight
- Amorim has secured just 18 of his forty-nine games in charge
- Wayne Rooney recently questioned the club's present direction
- The upcoming match against Sunderland is important for Amorim's position
