Donald Trump's Regime of Consequences and Incentives

Trump's voracious urge for payback has quickly evolved into a structured framework. Over the year since his election, the chief executive's fury and impulses have assumed the shape of official policies in ways analogous to earlier repressive systems. Government figures who resist his demands are summarily removed and substituted by devotees. Opposing leaders who question him face prosecution, court proceedings and sanctions. Opponents have been designated under presidential orders as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “opposing economic freedom”, and menaced with legal action as “extremists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Every case involving legal action of Trump's enemies and protection for loyalists displays its own distinct qualities. Yet, regardless of their individual character, they embody manifestations of what has arisen as a calculated approach. Those incidents are anything but random. Trump's removal of federal attorneys and law enforcement officials, accompanied by his appointment of devotees in key positions, commenced rapidly, promptly developed a pattern, and has now been molded into a structure. The justice department and the law enforcement agency have been remade into ideological organizations under Trump's explicit direction to execute his demands. Injustice has been rendered normal. It represents the retribution system.

Management is preoccupied with targeting the chief's supposed adversaries than they are with defending our national security.

Internal the Structure

The origin of this system has been uncovered in the court filing of several ex- high-ranking law enforcement officials filed in September in the US district court in the capital against agency head Kash Patel and justice department head another official for wrongful dismissal in “a campaign of retribution against them for what Defendants considered to be a refusal to show proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that Brian Driscoll, the previous temporary head, describes a exchange in which he “openly acknowledged the illegality of his conduct”.

He had tried to shield agency personnel from being terminated, the lawsuit states. Patel told him that “administration officials” – perceived by him to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had directed him to dismiss anyone who they determined as having worked on a legal probe against him. The complaint adds: “Patel explained that he had to dismiss the personnel his leaders told him to dismiss, because his ability to keep his own position depended on the removal of the agents who handled investigations involving the chief executive. The director noted that there was nothing he or him could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the bureau tried to incarcerate the chief in detention and he remembers.’” When he informed the director he was disregarding the agency's own internal rules, he allegedly said “he knew that and he realized the nature of the immediate dismissals were almost certainly improper”.

Widespread Effects

Following the director's reported confession to him, the DoJ and the FBI have been gutted and repurposed for the administration's system of punishment. Several of the FBI's senior executives were fired or pushed out in the initial period of the government. Roughly 4,500 legal professionals at the department have agreed to a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of multiple government attorneys, among them those in the southern district of New York, quit in objection over what they viewed as political interference in dropping the legal action against the city leader, the mayor, in return for his cooperation with his ICE detentions of migrants. The public integrity section of the justice department, which manages ethical violations, has been cut down to two attorneys. The rights protection unit has been decimated: the majority of its staff has resigned. 33% of top officials at the department have left. The division implementing environmental law has lost 50% its management.

Incentives and Sanctions

Concerning the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, Danielle Sassoon, resigned in dissent against what she characterized as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, Trump's “immigration leader,” was present as the implementer with Adams on television to declare: “Unless he complies, I'll reappear in New York City.”. Additionally, another figure, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a past legal representative, who brokered the deal, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a possible pathway to the supreme court.

The president's exemption for offenses committed while in power, awarded by the unprecedented judgment of the GOP-led on the judicial body, thus blocking his criminal case over the Capitol riot and maintaining his electoral prospects for the national vote, is the basis on which he depends to shield his stalwarts. Given this protection, he has been freed to authorize wrongdoing. The effect of the supreme court decision permeates his administration and the Republican Party down to its bones. The legal case has spread. In the words of the former president's administration lawyer the figure commented about the Watergate
